I think we all have a car that we used to own that we speak fondly of, but if ever given the chance wouldn’t buy it again. We love the car, but hate it at the same time. For me it would be a Geo Metro. I drove one in high school, thankfully it had a stick, I can’t imagine how terrible automatic ones are. I speak fondly of it, but honestly I would never drive one today. I’d maybe buy one to use for rallycross/autocross, but that’s about it. It was good at 2 things: fuel economy and winter driving (surprisingly). Other than that it was exactly what it was, a cheap cheap car. It was a tin can on wheels. I’d never want to get in any sort of accident in one, things were always rattling, it was noisy at any decent rate of speed, and getting on the freeway meant squeezing every bit of power out of the engine to not get run over. This is not my car, but pretty much the same, but with a green hood and doors (yea it looked like a watermelon, i need to find some pictures of it).

I hated my old crown vic because it was awful, unreliable and in disrepair at a time in my life when I couldn’t fix a lot of it. It also had a broken seat which gave me back spasms to drive it. But I also kind of loved it because it was my first RWD car and I could do burnouts in it and the V8 sounded great even if it wasn’t fast. I hate the car so much though.

Chevy Caprice
It was awesome and a complete pile of shit at the same time. It was the least reliable car I’ve ever owned.
Still, fond memories, and I loved the ride. It just bled me constantly as I tried to keep it in good shape and/or running.

Easy. 2nd gen 4Runner.
Guzzled gas like a 3/4 Ton truck, but it was painfully slow. Really not a great highway cruiser either, as the engine would rev really high when going up a hill using cruise control. It wasn’t practical at all. The rear window only worked about half the time I had it. I remember a camping trip where I went with three friends and we had to load gear through the folded down backseat because the window was stuck shut. I hated it. But I love it with rose tinted glasses.
It was built like a tank, and withstood every bit of abuse I could give. I wouldn’t own another one, but I enjoyed them.

For me it was my Fiat 500. I actually liked it a lot, but it was cramped, uncomfortable, and had horrific resale value. It was really fun with its stick and sunroof, and there are times I see 500s on the street and get the wistful pangs.
But when I traded it in, it left me crushingly upside down in my current car that I am very happy with.

My P71. It was a gas guzzling boat, and excessive in every way. It was also the cheapest to buy, cheapest to run, most modern, most reliable option for me at the time. Plenty of room for my ham radios. And for some reason other drivers treated me VERY nicely...

Mitsubishi Tredia. I had one of these maybe 15 years ago or so. Ugly as hell. Manual everything. Instead of a tach, it had a big ass clock in it’s place. Hell, it didn’t even have an interior light. The only problem I ever had though was the starter went bad. And I never even fixed it, I just kept a small hammer in the car to whack it when it didn’t start.

1993 Mazda MX-6 It was slightly riced and very beat when I got it. I fixed it a few times, but it left me stranded one to many times. So towed t home, and me and my buddies beat the shit out of it with whatever we could find. Pictured here with my favorite car my 1991 Civic hatch, it had 100,000 more miles, and 80hp less, but it was more fun and more reliable.

My Superbeetle. Had to constantly push start it, it was easier than rewiring the car. The fuel injection system sucked and got like 15 mpg if you went over 55.

Heh, this lump taking up a portion of my garage. It’s waiting for Rallycross season. This hunk of junk is the best $140 I ever spent.
Once I get the towbar installed, it’s getting kicked out of the garage for the rest of winter. It’s freaking cold and icy and the Roadmaster wants its spot back.

Easy question for me, 1989 Ford Taurus SHO. It was the first car I bought after highschool. I saved up 3 grand working at Dairy Queen senior year and the summer after to buy that piece of crap. Man I loved that car. It was much faster than anything else my friends owned. Fragile transmissions though. After the third one I traded it in on a (gulp) Cavalier Z24. I went from a car I didn’t regret to the one I regret the most. This was 16 years ago though, I was an idiot then.

I had one too, complete lemon. By far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. My stock 93 f150 was faster, better off road and got better fuel mileage.

2000 Audi S4
Loved driving that car— what an engine! But it was CONSTANTLY breaking... and cost a mint to repair.
I’m glad I got to enjoy one for a bit, but I would not go back and do it again.

2000 Hyundai Elantra Wagon. It’s the best car I’ll ever own. Unkillable, impossible to run out of space in, I got it for free, and it lasted for years before I started actively trying to kill it because I had another car and it was only worth scrap value. I couldn’t kill it. When I scrapped it, they were surprised to find that it still worked. About a year later, I saw it on the road. I know it was mine because of the distinctive scratches and dents from driving it through a bunch of bushes that I didn’t want to carry the shit in the trunk around and the ghettorigged foglamps that littered the front of it. I miss that stupid car.

haha...i think this is probably what will happen with my truck. i have a feeling it’s not going to die and it will be worthless beyond scrap value in short time (it’s a 93 F150 with the straight 6, but the body’s starting to rust everywhere and it’s already got ~229000 miles on it. But, it still runs like a top.
